Seppala Siberian Sleddog – Outcross Program

In 2023, following an all-members advisory poll, the ISSSC Board of Directors voted 5-0 to close the studbook for the Seppala Siberian Sleddog breed, retiring the percentage-based system for determining purebred Seppala status. All dogs that met the previous benchmark of 93% Seppala Pedigree content were labeled Purebred Seppalas, and the Seppala Cross category with the Continental Kennel Club was retired, with “breeding back up” to the 93% benchmark no longer a means of attaining purebred status.

As an extension of this closure of the studbook, the Board implemented a brand new Outcross Program, based on rigorous review of individual non-Seppala applicants, using a detailed outline of reviewed criteria. Majority vote of the sitting ISSSC BoD institutes admission of an outcross applicant into the SSSD studbook as an eligible outcross; Progeny of any admitted outcross individuals with a purebred Seppala Siberian Sleddog parent are eligible for purebred registration as Seppala Siberian Sleddogs.
